Button Collecting
Button collecting is a hobby enjoyed across the globe, but in the USA it is an especially largely enjoyed activity. Collectors search for buttons and make button trays which consist of a theme of sorts. These trays are beautiful displays that use creativity and determination to make. Collecting buttons can be a hard and long process, but it yields a good reward.

Creating a Button collector tray
The most exciting part of button collecting is putting together a tray. One does this by first selecting a base. This usually consists of thick high quality paper. The buttons are organized with a theme that can range from make, age, color, etc. The buttons are secured to the base with a tie through the button hole or stem. It is important that the stem not break off of the button otherwise it is virtually useful and no longer holds value on your tray or anywhere else (15). Trays are probably the most important part of button collecting because it keeps things organized and perfect for competition. Displaying button in this fashion is important to the button world and invokes others interest button.

Button shows and competitions are a large part of the button community in the USA. This friendly competition gives all button collectors, amateur and pro alike, a chance to share their passion of buttons with one another. In addition to bring people together, these competitions also peak new interests in buttons from all kinds of people. Every button show and/or competition works slightly different, but they all have some kind of judge who will award best in show.
